2018 Cruise

 May 8, 2017

While cruising is still fresh in everyone’s mind, we are planning the Virginia Trace and Friends cruise for February 17 – 24, 2019 on the new Celebrity ship, the EDGE.

We are planning much earlier than usual to experience this new class of Celebrity ships.  Cabins are now available for the February 17, 2019 booking and they are already disappearing.  Various cruise tour companies are able to hold blocks of cabins in anticipation of customer booking and they do not have to release them until several months before the sailing date.

We believe that in the current environment early booking is essential for the best cabin selection.  Cabin availability now is the best it is ever going to be for the date we have selected.  This new ship is booking up very fast.  The announcement flyer for the seven day western Caribbean cruise is attached.

The descriptive video for the EDGE is on the following web site:

And the deck plan web site is as follows:

Paste either of these in your web browser to view the content.

As for the 2018 sailing on the Reflection, we have again selected Yankee Trails to handle the booking, provide some incentives, and a free bus to/from the departure port, Ft. Lauderdale.

At this time, there is no deadline since the Yankee Trails incentive is guaranteed ($75 ship board credit per cabin) and Celebrity is currently offering either the Beverage Package or the $300/cabin onboard credit.  Should Celebrity add any additional incentive or price discount between now and 75 days prior to the cruise, it would be applied to your reservation.  Cabin pricing is not guaranteed and Celebrity could raise the prices if bookings go exceptionally well. Of course cancellation with FULL refund of deposit is still available 75 days prior to sailing.

Julie Burns is holding some cabins on Deck 7 in the E3 category.  There are also some cabins on Deck 8 and Deck 9.  Any past Celebrity Captain’s Club member (and you should join if you have sailed Celebrity) can get a within category free upgrade, i.e. pay for an E4 and get a pick of an E3, or an E3 and get a pick of an E2, etc.  Of course other categories are available including Concierge (Deck 11) if you want extra cruise points.  See the deck plan and discuss your preference and availability with Julie.

Contact Julie Burns, 352-633-4643 – ext. 226 (jBurns@yankeetrails.com) for reservations and cabin selection.

2019 Cruise

Marie Anderson asked me to send this follow-up note.  My thanks to all of you that have contributed.

RE: Collecting warm clothing items for the homeless.

I cannot thank everyone enough for the great response to this plea.  Several of you have returned more than once with even more donations.  I took many, many carloads of items to the "Come As You Are" ministry in Leesburg.  Everything was welcomed with open arms and much appreciation.  The number of donations far exceeded my expectations and enabled sharing the bounty with the American Legion (for people in the forest) and the Women's Abuse Shelter in Belleview.  The need continues, and I take things year round.  You can continue to leave things on my front porch, 1073 Nichols Terrace. Call if you wish, Marie Andersen  750-3338.

Oddly, during this collection I received several requests from other groups asking for things they could use.  Virginia Trace folks are generous.  Most of us have these unused items at home and are willing to share.  I would be happy to continue being a central DROP OFF point and make sure things get to the proper people. (I am not a member of any group other than sharing the Box Tops for Education with the class I volunteer to tutor at Fruitland Park Elementary.)

Please remember these charities as you clean out your pantries, closets and garages. One stop drop off for your convenience.

Clothing, toothbrushes, paste, soap, shavers ($1 store items): Anything for the homeless in the forest
Food, even outdated: for the homeless (clean out the pantry, camper; good use for BOGO)
Pillowcases used: ladies make dresses for poor little girls in foreign countries. Sewing needs; lace, binding, elastic, rick rack, buttons, any decorative embellishments
Box Tops for Education: Food labels on boxes/cans. Can get list of products.  School gets computer monies
Yarn (left over skeins): Ladies make hats for premies, chemo patients, military (wear under their helmets)
Worn American Flags: Operation Shoebox includes individual stars (they destroy rest of flag properly)
Used but clean pillows: The Lighthouse Women's Abuse Shelter Belleview
Small lap-robes, quilts, small blankets, shawls: nursing home patients use on beds and to keep them cozy.

If your group needs items collected let me know and they can be added to the list
